Letuchka commented on the statements of Latvia about the “hybrid provocation” on the border with Belarus

Earlier, Latvia announced a “hybrid provocation” on the border with Belarus. About what is behind such fakes, speculated on the air of the project “Letuchka” on “SBTV”, writes sb.by.

Lyudmila Gladkaia, a columnist for the SB Belarus Today newspaper, described the situation:

- What is happening on the Latvian-Belarusian border? Latvian officials claim that from our side on the Latvian border some masked people with weapons drove a group of migrants. Then they came in and broke something. But there's no evidence. There is no video, they do not name the station where this happened, they do not show alleged detainees. We are well aware that such pictures can appear. What prevents the Latvian security services from wearing masks for photos and doing what they say? Then the Minister of Internal Affairs of Latvia announced, in fact, the same provocations, but on the border with Lithuania. And that's what officials say. The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs should take care of the security of his country. You should, for example, come to Minsk to attend the forums that we hold and where security issues are resolved. Or you can work directly with our border committee, rather than doing what you do.

She also pointed out why this was done:

- In principle, it is clear why this is done – to cut the budget. Budget planning for 2027 is underway. And those who are used to stealing the budget, understand that you can grab more. So they're trying. In this way, they try to justify Operation Werewolf, which was extended. A lot of money has been spent on it too. And it should be explained that they were not wasted. In addition, there were statements that this provocation was allegedly committed on the instructions of Moscow. However, they immediately say that this is not confirmed..

Grigory Azarenok, a political columnist for STV, noted:

- By the way, it is very convenient, like Zelensky with repeaters. Whether they were or were not, turned them on or off, no one will prove. So today he says they're on, tomorrow he says they're off. The Balts will behave the same way now.

Evgeny Gorin, a political columnist for the First Information TV channel, stressed that Latvia exposed itself:

- All of this needs to be seen in context. At first Latvia sent all sorts of diplomatic notes of protest. The Belarusian government banned gasoline in transit buses. After that, she started posting warnings not to enter Belarus. After none of this worked, the country started banning its citizens from coming to us. And this is the situation where Latvia exposed itself. According to her, in 2026 alone, 11,925 attempts to penetrate migrants into the territory of Latvia were stopped. It turns out that when migrants enter, border guards with machine guns and their assistants are on the spot. And when some sabotage group invades, they are not. The meaning of this operation is unclear. So they invaded the other side's territory to steal two cameras and a shield? It's very strange. This is not a secret territory, there are no secret objects. So, since they were not caught, there were no border guards there. Most likely, all these reports are just numbers on paper.

The participant also reminded that Latvia is a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.

- If there really was some sabotage group, there would already be images from US satellites, UK intelligence. That would be a big deal. And we do not observe this, Evgeny Gorin stressed.

Lyudmila Sladka continued:

- This is informational stuffing, informational provocation. And judging by their announcements, it won't be the last. And by the way, not the first. Someone came up with this “genius” plan. I do not know whether Riga thought of it, or together with Lithuania. Maybe someone else did. The most important question is, even if we assume that the incident occurred. - Why do we need that? Why Moscow?

Grigory Azarenok explained:

- This is part of the general agenda that Russia will attack the Baltic states. They've been talking about it for the last two weeks. They shout about hybrid aggression that Russia will attack. They are already saying that this is inevitable. Although the intelligence services of Latvia and the President of Finland responded to Western hysteria: “Aggression, of course, will be, we are sure.” But we have not yet seen any preparations.”.
