Venice is considering an increase in the amount of the fee for the entry of tourists to the historical center

In Venice, they are studying the initiative to increase the tourist fee for the opportunity to visit the historical center without overnight stays in local hotels. This idea is not connected with the desire to replenish the budget, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti news agency reports.

The municipal council claims that the measure is designed to prevent the influx of guests. According to RIA Novosti, Venice noted that the current fee, equal to 5-10 euros, will cease to be a deterrent, since almost every traveler can make such an amount. In preliminary discussions, it was even about setting the fee at 50 euros, but it is possible that they will stop at 30. This will be decided by the local authorities.

This initiative was previously made by the new mayor of Venice Simone Venturini. The collection is introduced on days when an increased flow of tourists is expected in the city. Also on the agenda is the issue of increasing the number of days on which guests will need to pay for entry. Guests of Venetian hotels, children under 14 years old, citizens themselves, their relatives and those living in the Veneto region, students working there, law enforcement officers, people with disabilities will be exempt from the fee.
