According to TASS with reference to the TV channel ZBS, the epicenter of the disaster was the city of Masvingo - the administrative center of the province of the same name. There strong winds, downpours and large hail destroyed many houses and other buildings, including schools and hospitals.
Zimbabwe’s Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Daniel Garve, said that “preliminary estimates suggest that 90% of the 17,000 homes surveyed were affected.” Classes in some educational institutions were terminated, business life in the city of Masvingo was disrupted. The authorities provide the necessary assistance to the victims.
