Venice is considering raising the fee for tourists three times
A senior city government official said that Venice is considering increasing the cost of visiting the city for tourists.

A senior city government official said Venice was considering increasing the city's fee for tourists by introducing a longer pass and raising the daily fee to 30 euros ($34).

Budget and Tax Council member Michele Zuin said the current fee of between 5 and 10 euros was too low to protect against excessive tourism. He noted that the new price for 2027 should be discussed and agreed with the government.
The current fee of 5-10 euros is available to almost everyone. There is a risk that it will cease to have the deterrent effect that this measure is designed for, Zuin said in the Sunday issue of a regional daily local newspaper.
The councillor said there had been "discussions of raising the fee even to 50 euros," adding that authorities could eventually agree to a maximum amount of 30 euros.
The tourist fee, which applies only to day tourists, was introduced in 2024. It was the first time in the world. Those who book in advance pay a reduced rate and also receive a number of benefits, including for children under 14 years of age.
In 2026, the tourist collection in Venice worked on separate days from April 3 to July 26 from 8:30 to 16:00 and brought to the city treasury more than 5.2 million euros from the sale of almost 680,000 entrance tickets.
