Hackers hacked the FBI website: what is known

Hacker group ShinyHunters announced the hacking of the FBI website and the theft of personal data of a significant part of the agency’s employees. As a motive, the attackers called a retaliatory measure to the publication of the FBI, which revealed the methods of work of this international criminal group. This was reported by Reuters with reference to representatives of ShinyHunters.

According to reports, on September 22, attackers from the ShinyHunters group hacked into a site with FBI vacancies and stole the information of “almost all agents.” According to Reuters, the hackers designated the FBI as the target of the attack because of the publication of the bureau in May 2026 on the methods of the hackers.

In confirmation of their actions, members of ShinyHunters posted a screenshot of the hacked FBI resource on the network, and also released data on about five thousand agents. The authenticity of the published screenshot Reuters could not confirm.

At the same time, NewsNation journalist Hannah Brandt said on the X social network that the FBI notified her of the beginning of the investigation after revealing “unauthorized activity” ShinyHunters on the agency’s website.
