Rospatent did not see an increase in the activity of foreign companies
Earlier, a number of foreign companies that left Russia registered trademarks. The head of Rospatent Yuri Zubov linked such activity with the need to extend the validity of trademarks
Rospatent does not see the growth of activity of foreign companies in the trademark market, said in an interview with Radio RBC the head of the department Yuri Zubov.
“This is most often related to the work of legal entities, law firms that are hired in our country. Every ten years, any trademark issued in a particular country must be renewed or it ceases to be valid, Zubov said, explaining the registration of trademarks by a number of foreign companies.
Most often, such activity is associated with the expiration of trademarks, when companies apply to renew them, he explained. You know, about 8-9% of the total volume of applications is stable, and we have about 160 thousand of them a year for trademark registration. And this figure of 8-9% from year to year does not change, is stable, so we do not see any surge in activity, interest, said the head of Rospatent.
At the same time, Zubov noted that Rospatent recorded an increase in applications from “eastern partners and friendly countries.” “This is not a sign,” he stressed.
Earlier, a number of foreign companies that left Russia registered trademarks. In particular, in January, the Japanese holding Fast Retailing Co., which manages the Uniqlo store chain, registered the trademark “Uniclo” in the country.
In February, Rospatent registered a trademark of the fast food chain McDonald’s. In 2022, former McDonald’s restaurants began operating under the brand name “Tasty and period”.
