The Archaeological Center of the Pskov region conducts scheduled visits to examine the state of archaeological sites in the Novorzhevsky district. About this "MK in Pskov" reported in the center.
During the work, specialists specify the location of monuments, apply them to maps using GPS, determine the exact coordinates in the WGS 84 system, record the current state and degree of preservation of objects, and also conduct photo fixation.
To date, about 40 objects of archaeological heritage are listed on the state protection in Novorzhevsky district.
A number of monuments of the district were reflected in the "Materials to the archaeological map of the Pskov province", which was collected by N. F. Okulich-Kazarin in 1912-1913. From the 1950s to the 1990s, systematic reconnaissance led by P. A. Rappoport, O. S. Kondratyeva, M. E. Vasiliev, B. A. Raev, G. N. Pronin, A. R. Artemyev, B. N. Kharlashov and other researchers made it possible to discover and describe dozens of fortifications, mounds, burial grounds and cult stones.
In 1992-1993, an inventory of monuments was carried out, during which a number of previously unknown objects were identified.
