Historical Transfiguration: The Transfiguration Cathedral of the Mirozh Monastery Transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church
An important event occurred in the cultural and religious life of Pskov

An important event occurred in the cultural and religious life of Pskov. The Interregional Territorial Administration of Rosimushchestvo officially notified the Pskov Museum-Reserve of the termination of the right of operational management of key objects of the Spaso-Mirozhsky Monastery ensemble. We are talking about the Transfiguration Cathedral of the XII century and the Brotherly Cells of the XV-XIX centuries, which have the status of cultural heritage objects of federal significance, reports the Pskov News Tape with reference to information provided by the museum-reserve.
Now these ancient monuments pass into the jurisdiction of the Pskov diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. However, the transfer of property does not mean the severance of ties with the museum community. On the portal of the Pskov Museum-Reserve it is reported that active consultations have already begun between the museum and the diocese. The main goal of the dialogue is to ensure the preservation and popularization of the Transfiguration Cathedral, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Special attention will be paid to the unique fresco painting of the XII century. Further restoration and maintenance of the microclimate in the temple will be carried out by a religious organization, but taking into account the half-century experience of museum specialists. It was the museum workers who for decades maintained the necessary temperature and humidity regime, allowing to save ancient frescoes from destruction.
All activities for the preservation of the UNESCO object will be built in close cooperation and under the control of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage of the Pskov region.
