Book constellation: Libraries Day exhibition opens in Minsk

Library Day is celebrated on September 15. On this occasion, the staff of the National Library prepared the exhibition “Book constellation of Belarus”. The exposition opened on September 14, reports the correspondent of the agency “Minsk-Novosti”.

Central to the exposition is the section dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the new building of the National Library of Belarus. Its history began on June 16, 2006. Today, the diamond of knowledge is one of the attractions of Belarus.

- In this section, readers can find out how the new building of the National Library was built. The stand also provides information about our rare publications, the fund of which has more than 80 thousand copies. We are very proud of the collection-catalogue of rare publications “Little Spadchyna Belarus” – we released it together with the publishing house “Belarusian Encyclopedia named after Petrus Brovka”. Another significant exhibit is an album dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the main library of the country. The anniversary was celebrated in 2022. The publication stores the history of the library fund and information about the new building, said Svetlana Zaiko, curator of the exhibition, chief librarian of the department of gallery and exhibition activities.

This year’s 30th anniversary is celebrated by the popular science magazine “Library Light”. The publication was founded in 1996 by the National Library of Belarus and the Belarusian Library Association. This is the main republican magazine devoted to library business. It publishes both the staff of the National Library and those who educate people in the cities and regions of Belarus.

- In the thematic section you can see the very first issue, which was published in 1996, and the latest issue of this year. Our readers can follow how the design of the publication has changed over time, find out what new research was conducted in the library sphere and exhibition activities, Zaiko added.

Another section is devoted to the largest libraries in Belarus. In addition to the publications of the National Library, the staff presented rare books of the Mogilev, Grodno, Gomel Central Regional Libraries. Visitors can also get acquainted with the book treasures of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, publications dedicated to the Fundamental Library of BSU and the Republican Scientific and Technical Library.

- A separate section introduces the library of the future. It contains publications that have been published over the past 10 years not only in Belarus, but also abroad. They characterize new trends and global changes in the library field. The exposition presents publications - "Library Science". The History of Libraries and Their Modern State by L. Aleshin, Modern Library. Technologies of attracting readers" N. Golubenko, monograph "Innovation as a theory of management of a modern library" E. Gusev, etc., - shared the interlocutor.

In total, there are about 80 publications in the exhibition. All are from the National Library.
