On the website of the Pskov Museum-Reserve opened a virtual exhibition "Government in a new way of government arranged". It is timed to the 250th anniversary of the decree of Catherine II “On the opening of Polotsk and Pskov provinces”, signed on August 24, 1776. About it "MK in Pskov" reported in the Center of tourism and creative industries of Pskov.
The main plot of the exhibition is the Empress’s journey to Mogilev in May 1780. The route passed through the Pskov, Polotsk, Mogilev, Smolensk and Novgorod provinces. The trip also had a diplomatic purpose: in Mogilev, Catherine met with Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II, who traveled incognito under the name of Count Falkenstein.
Local authorities learned about the trip in September 1779. The Senate and the Empress’s Cabinet developed a detailed route, appointed stations, places for lunches and overnight stays. At each station, 450 horses were required, totaling more than 12,000.
