Museum-estate "Yasnaya Polyana" launches the writer's club "Lion's share". Write. The first meetings will be held on November 7 and 21, 2026 in the literary cafe "Steve" of the cultural and exhibition complex "L. N. T." on Metallistov Street, 25, in Tula, told "MK in Tula" in the press service of the cultural institution.
Participants will study the digitized drafts of the hunting scene from Leo Tolstoy’s novel War and Peace and track how the text changed from the original version to the final version. Then they will try to apply the techniques of the writer in their own works.
The new project will be a continuation of the book club, which has been working at Steve for the fourth season. According to the head of the department of special projects of the museum-estate Olga Glazunova, the participants of the club for two years learned to understand the works of classics, and now will be able to try themselves as authors. As the main mentor, the organizers chose Tolstoy, a writer whose work on the text required attention to even the simplest formulations.
The meetings will be held by literary critic Tatiana Bogatyreva, who also moderates the book club. It will examine how Tolstoy worked with words, rhythm and composition, and show how precise formulations help to reveal the character of the hero and make the scene more expressive. The participants will consider drafts not as unsuccessful versions, but as an important part of the search for the right thought and language.
In the second part of each meeting, guests will be asked to write a short essay using one of the techniques studied. Those who wish can read their texts aloud and discuss them with other participants. Bogatyreva notes that writing helps a person better understand themselves and express their own thoughts using language.
The start of meetings is at 12:00, each lasting two hours.
