In the Crimea, a shortage of saperavi harvest is expected - one of the main grape varieties from which red wine is produced, the Research Institute of Agriculture of the region told TASS. Among the reasons are called weather conditions.
According to the research institute, the most productive varieties of early maturation were amber muscat, black pinot, medium maturation period - merlot, aligote and Riesling Rhein. According to experts, at the end of the year, the ratio of collected white and red varieties will be at the level of 60:40.
Grape harvesting in the region began in mid-August and will last until the end of October-early November. The institute specified that a moderately hot summer with alternating precipitation contributed to a better yield of white varieties and the laying of quiet wines. “The current year is favorable for the production of high-quality sparkling and pearl wines, as well as light table wines,” said Denis Kratyuk, Minister of Agriculture of the region.
In January-August, the production of quiet wines in one of the key Russian wine regions - Crimea - fell in annual terms by 24.7%, sparkling - by 38%. Production here decreased more than the average in Russia. Crimean winemakers do not always manage to bottle and ship products on time due to logistics problems.
