The forest at Manzherok is cut down for the reconstruction of the road, not the gambling zone

Federal highway R-256 "Chuisky tract" in the vicinity of Manzherok is undergoing a stage of large-scale modernization. Despite the wave of discussions on social networks related to deforestation, the essence of the project is to solve the systemic transport problem of the region, not to develop recreational and entertainment infrastructure.
The project provides for the reconstruction of 3.6 km of the existing roadway (with an increase in the number of lanes to four) and the construction of 14.4 km of a new highway on the section from 454 to 475 km. The new road will bypass the settlements of Souzga, Cheremshanka and Manzherok, which will allow to bring transit flows beyond residential areas. This will lead to a decrease in the level of noise and the concentration of pollutants in the air, as well as increase the safety of pedestrians.
The intensity of traffic on this site in high season exceeds 27 thousand cars daily, which makes the existing two-lane road can not cope with the load. According to the head of the Altai Republic Andrey Turchak, Chuisky and Teletsky highways are the most important transport corridors, the reliability and capacity of which depend on the daily needs of residents and long-term economic prospects of the region.
Among the key activities are the construction of two multi-level transport interchanges (in Souzga and at the turn to the Lake), the arrangement of two multifunctional recreation areas and the construction of an above-ground pedestrian crossing near Manzherok. The roadway will be equipped with modern enclosing structures, an outdoor lighting system and an intelligent traffic control system.
The work is carried out within the framework of the national project “Infrastructure for Life”; completion is scheduled for the end of 2028. Environmental issues are integrated into the project documentation: the contract contains a commitment to complete reforestation on the lands of the state forest fund until construction is completed. The implementation of environmental standards is under the control of relevant departments and the Government Commission for Regional Development (curator – Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin).
The Manzherok resort makes a significant contribution to the restoration of forests: more than 2.39 million trees have been planted as part of the environmental program to rehabilitate Lake Manzherok and support biodiversity. Currently, about 200 specialists work at the site, 75 units of equipment are used. The main amount of work falls on the preparation of the earthbed - about 20 thousand cubic meters of excavation and more than 7 thousand cubic meters of embankment were performed. At the same time, industrial and repair infrastructure is being arranged, an asphalt concrete plant is being installed and a residential town for builders is being built. The general contractor is Transstroymechanization JSC; the project is implemented on behalf of the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin.
