After summer, most people have a sufficient “vitamin supply” due to seasonal berries and fruits. However, with reduced daylight hours, these resources are gradually depleted. Therefore, vitamin complexes are considered relevant both in autumn and in spring. This was during the briefing “Health of the Nation: Prevention of ARI – from recommendations to habit”, said Associate Professor of the Department of General Medical Practice with a course of geriatrics and palliative medicine BSMU, candidate of medical sciences Natalia Klimovich, reports sb.by.

She added:
- If we are talking about a frequently ill child or adult, this may indicate a deficiency of vitamins, macro- and micronutrients or a lack of vegetables, fruits and fiber in the diet. A balanced diet should be a constant norm. Vitamin complexes are prescribed during the recovery period, but not in the acute phase of the disease - at this point they do not have an effect.

Special attention is paid to fat-soluble vitamins, especially vitamin D. Its level should be monitored laboratory to determine the need for prophylactic or therapeutic dosage. Although vitamin D is traditionally associated with phosphorus-calcium metabolism, it plays an important role in the work of immunity. The body functions as a single system, and the deficiency of one element can affect different processes. Therefore, the appointment of vitamins should be justified and carried out according to indications.
