Can I take psyllium with bloating? This question was answered by a Russian gastroenterologist, hepatologist Ekaterina Kornilova, writes sb.by.

The specialist stressed that psyllium is a soluble dietary fiber (shell of plantain seeds), which gastroenterologists often prescribe to correct constipation. However, this substance is not a universal remedy for bloating and is not suitable for everyone:
“Since psyllium itself can provoke increased gas formation, its reception requires strict rules. The doctor prescribes the drug with minimal doses, very smoothly increasing the volume and tracking the reaction of the body.”.
The doctor continued: some patients with irritable bowel syndrome tolerate psyllium categorically poorly - instead of relief, they have increased cramps and flatulence. Therefore, if psyllium causes deterioration, it is canceled and alternative types of fiber or pharmacy products are selected to normalize stool and reduce gas formation.
