The doctor told whether diabetes is inherited and what symptoms indicate the disease

Endocrinologist, deputy chief physician for the medical part of the health care institution "Minsk City Clinical Endocrinology Center" Elena Otlivanchik told what symptoms can be suspected of diabetes. Details she shared on the air of the talk show “PRO HEALTH” on the YouTube channel “Watch and live”, writes sb.by. Speaking about who is at risk, the expert noted:

- If we are talking about diabetes of the first type, it is primarily the children of people with diabetes of the first type. As for type II diabetes, heredity is also important here, but still the key factors are our lifestyle, approach to nutrition, exercise, and the presence of concomitant chronic diseases. A predisposition to diabetes is inherited, and how it manifests itself depends on us and on how genes have developed in a particular organism.

Elena Otlivanchik also listed the symptoms that indicate this disease:

- There are two types of symptoms. The first - specifically diabetic, the second - symptoms of insulin resistance. On the presence of insulin resistance, we can talk about the appearance of black acanthosis, darkening of the skin. It becomes compacted, dark. This is manifested on the back, lateral surface of the neck, in the axillary troughs, in the groin. No matter how much my skin is, it remains dark. Another sign is the appearance of multiple papillomas. Some distinguish the concept of “insulin face” – insulin pulls water and contributes to the appearance of swelling. Plus, hyperinsulinism contributes to the production of androgens in the female body, which causes women to grow more facial hair.

According to the doctor, diabetes of the second type is extremely desirable to detect before symptoms:

- If we detect type II diabetes when symptoms appear, it is a late diagnosis. And, most likely, these patients have already developed irreversible diabetic complications. What are the classic signs of hyperglycemia? This is thirst, frequent urination and weight loss.
