Gold smugglers convicted in Transbaikalia

Two foreigners in the Trans-Baikal Territory were convicted of trying to smuggle more than 7 kilograms of gold across the border. This was reported in the joint press center of the courts of the region.

According to one of the defendants, in the village of Zabaikalsk near the market, he found 11 bars of gold in a package. He hid the find in his car and decided to move it across the border, for which he hired an accomplice.

The examination found almost 7.3 kilograms of chemically pure gold worth more than 63 million rubles.

The finder was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment with a fine of 500 thousand rubles, an accomplice – 5.5 years and 400 thousand rubles of a fine.

Smugglers tried to bookmark someone else's truck in the border parking lot. They were detained by FSB officers. The gold was confiscated and turned into state revenue.
