In Solntsevo district of the Kursk region 69-year-old man lost a large sum of money trying to buy parts for agricultural machinery through the Internet. This was reported in the press service of the MIA of Russia in the Kursk region.
The pensioner was looking for a reliable provider online and came across a website that was later revealed to be fake. He was contacted by the “manager” and helped to determine the choice of necessary spare parts.
To confirm the transaction, the attacker sent the pensioner a package of documents, including supply and sale contracts. The papers were executed competently and did not cause suspicion in the victim, the police said.
The man signed the documents with an electronic signature and transferred 591 thousand rubles to the specified details. Under the terms of the deal, the order had to be delivered within two weeks. However, the package did not arrive at the appointed time, and the manager stopped answering calls.
After the victim’s appeal to the duty unit, the search officers established that the resource through which the purchase was made was phishing. Scammers completely copied the design of the site of a real organization, changing only the address in the browser bar.
A criminal case has been opened on this fact.
