A resident of Zheleznogorsk, Kursk region became another victim of the scheme of fraudsters, having lost more than three million rubles. The scammers were able to gain her trust using video calls and fake documents.
As it became known, the woman received a call from an alleged law enforcement officer. The stranger said that the accounts of all elderly residents of the city were hacked, and the money was allegedly used to finance terrorism. To put the guard down, the attacker stressed that the pensioner is the only one whose funds are still safe, and it is impossible to delay.
During the conversation, the victim herself revealed to the attacker where she stores her savings and to what extent. For persuasiveness, the fraudster sent her photos of his official ID and made video calls. Believing in the reality of what is happening, the woman decided not to consult with anyone and acted strictly on the instructions of a stranger, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Kursk region said.
As a result, the pensioner transferred 3.3 million rubles to scammers.
Realizing that she was left without means of subsistence, the woman went to the police. Law enforcement officers not only gave her advice, but also officially recognized the victim in the case of fraud on an especially large scale.
