Magnetic storm on the threshold: what to expect Pskovits

On October 20, 2026, the Earth’s magnetosphere will be in a tense state: the probability that the vibrations will develop into a weak magnetic storm reaches 51%.
The most noticeable disturbances are predicted in the morning - from about 00:00-03:00 to 09:00-12:00 Moscow time. It is in the morning that the peak of geomagnetic activity is expected.
According to the calculations of scientists, the Kp index will be 4-4.6 points - this is the boundary value corresponding to a weak magnetic storm of the G1 level.
The reason for the fluctuations will be the flow of fast solar wind: The Earth will be hit by an ejection from a large coronal hole on the Sun.
From the second half of October 20, the situation will begin to gradually level out. According to the Solar Astronomy Laboratory, the geomagnetic environment should return to normal levels by October 21-23.
If the weather is clear, in the night and morning, residents of high latitudes and the European part of Russia have a small chance to see the Northern Lights. Observations in the early hours of October 20 may be particularly successful.
Those who are sensitive to changes in the magnetic field should save their strength on this day: avoid excessive exertion, rest more and monitor their health.
