Morkine received a suspended sentence for cultivation of poppy
In Mari El convicted a man growing poppy in his plot.
As established by the investigation and the court, in the summer of 2024, the man drew attention to the wild poppy that grew up on his site. Instead of weeding the forbidden plant, he began to take care of it: watered, weeded from weeds. As a result, almost three dozen plants grew.
When they ripened, the Morkinese plucked them and dried them, receiving more than two kilograms of poppy straw.
The court found the man guilty of illicit cultivation of large-scale plants containing narcotic drugs and illegal possession of narcotic drugs without the purpose of selling on a large scale. The punishment is imprisonment for three and a half years. Taking into account the mitigating circumstances: active promotion of the disclosure and investigation of crimes, confession of guilt and repentance, positive characteristics at the place of residence, age (64 years) and the state of health of the accused, the court determined the sentence in the form of imprisonment conditional, setting a probationary period of two years, during which the man is obliged to prove his correction, the joint press service of the courts of Mari El reported.
The verdict of the court has not entered into legal force.
