Man stabbed wife in flat while their daughter was on school excursion

In Cologne, Germany, a 47-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of the brutal murder of his wife. According to investigators, he inflicted a 39-year-old wife fatal stab wounds in their apartment.

At the time of the tragedy, the couple’s daughter was away from home, on a school trip in Berlin. After the incident, the man told his brother about the incident, and then was discovered by police near the crime scene.

According to the German TV channel WDR, the murder occurred on the evening of October 15 in the area of Lindenthal, which is considered one of the quiet residential areas of Cologne. The tragedy caused a large-scale operation of emergency services.

According to police, after the attack, the alleged killer contacted his brother and informed him of the incident. Soon, police officers, firefighters and doctors arrived at the apartment building.

Inside the apartment, rescuers found a woman with severe stab wounds. The doctor tried to save her life, but the injuries were fatal. The 39-year-old victim was not rescued.

In the meantime, police began looking for her husband. The alleged attacker was found in the immediate vicinity of the house. A WDR correspondent at the scene witnessed the detention. According to him, the man did not resist the police.

One of the most difficult circumstances of the tragedy was the situation with the daughter of the deceased. The girl is in the 10th grade of the gymnasium and at the time of the murder of her mother was with her classmates on an educational trip to Berlin.

Judging by the information of the educational institution, the news of the incident reached the participants of the school trip. In the gymnasium, the incident caused shock among teachers and students.

The headmaster of the school appealed to parents and students, saying that the teaching staff is deeply experiencing the tragedy. The administration organized psychological support for children, including with the involvement of school social workers and counseling teachers.

The management of the gymnasium also asked not to spread rumors and not to make assumptions about the circumstances of the death of the woman. Special attention is paid to supporting children directly affected by the tragedy.

Meanwhile, investigators continue to restore the sequence of events in the apartment of the couple. It is not yet known what preceded the attack and whether there was a conflict between the husband and wife just before the murder.

Police also did not disclose a possible motive for the crime. There is no confirmed information on whether the victim has previously sought help because of threats or domestic violence.

It is not known whether the detainee made a confession or what position his defence took. Law enforcement authorities are considering the incident as the alleged murder of a woman by her husband.
