On the South Ural journalist-foreign agent opened a criminal case

We are talking about journalist Yevgeny Krotenko, who was recognized as a foreign agent in 2025. According to this status, he must mark all publications in his public channels with notes that they are created and distributed by a foreign agent. However, Krotenko did not do this from October 2025 to February 2026 in his Telegram channel.

The press service of the SU TFR in the Chelyabinsk region reported that in connection with the violation of the procedure for the activities of a foreign agent, Yevgeny Krotenko opened a case under Part 2 of Art. 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. He has previously been subject to administrative penalties for such misconduct. The crime was identified by the IC and law enforcement operatives. Evidence is being collected.

Earlier, Krotenko was detained in absentia for extortion committed by a group of persons on a preliminary conspiracy, on a large scale under paragraph “a”, “g” part 2 of article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which he committed together with another South Ural journalist – Sergey Shumakov, who was given a term of three years of general regime. Yevgeny Krotenko himself is currently on the federal wanted list.
