The air defense forces of the Arabian coalition intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired towards Riyadh by the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement. This was reported by the official representative of the coalition Turki al-Maliki.
“Air defense forces intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by Houthi terrorists in the direction of Riyadh,” he wrote on social network X.
Following the incident, Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Civil Defense activated a national emergency early warning platform. Residents of the capital were notified of a possible threat.
The ministry later announced the cancellation of the alert, saying that the danger to Riyadh had passed. AFP also reported two explosions in the city as air threat warning systems went off.
The armed confrontation in Yemen has been going on since August 2014. The conflict involves government forces supported by the Arabian coalition and Houthi rebels.
On October 19, the military representative of the movement Yahya Saria announced a series of strikes on the territory of Saudi Arabia. According to him, among the targets were the international airport named after King Khalid in Riyadh, facilities of the oil and gas company Saudi Aramco and military bases.
