One of the peaks of the Main Caucasian Range was named after Mikhail Kalashnikov
The creation of the AK-47 assault rifle, which began a whole line of weapons under the Kalashnikov brand, took place in Kovrov in 1946-1948.

In North Ossetia, a mountain named after the legendary weapons designer appeared. The order was signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The height of the unnamed mountain is 4072.4 meters.
Kalashnikov had a doctorate in technical sciences and the rank of lieutenant general. He twice became a Hero of Socialist Labor and was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation. No other citizen has received all of these awards at the same time.
The creation of the AK-47 assault rifle, which began a whole line of weapons under the Kalashnikov brand, took place in Kovrov in 1946-1948. Specialists and workers of factory number two participated in the work. Then senior sergeant Kalashnikov, who served at the Moscow test site, submitted a draft for the competition, and it was recommended for revision. In the autumn of 1946, the designer was sent to Kovrov, where he was engaged in drawings and assembly of the first samples. His main assistant was Alexander Zaitsev. In January 1948, after the final competitive stage, the machine was recommended for adoption, and in March Kalashnikov was sent to continue work in Izhevsk.
Years later, in 1997, speaking at a celebration in honor of the workers of the Degtyarev plant, the designer said that almost two years spent in Kovrov gave him a ticket to life.
