At first, the elderly woman received a call from an unknown woman who introduced herself as an employee of the social fund. Referring to the recalculation of the pension, she lured the pensioner’s personal data and digital code from the SMS message, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Penza region reports. Then the victim called a man who called himself an employee of the security service. He said that the personal data of the woman was the fraudsters, and from her account allegedly transferred funds to the accounts of an extremist organization.
To prevent illegal actions, the caller advised the pensioner to cash out her savings and transfer them to the courier for safety. The woman withdrew the money and gave it to an unknown person. She later realized she had been cheated and went to the police.
The investigation is conducted on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This article provides for imprisonment for up to six years.
