“Halftons on the hood”: Pskov drivers warned of the deadly danger of encounters with moose on the roads
State traffic inspection of the Pskov region is sounding the alarm: cases of sudden appearance of wild animals have become more frequent on the roads of the region

The traffic police of the Pskov region is sounding the alarm: cases of sudden appearance of wild animals have become more frequent on the roads of the region. And if a meeting with a hare or a fox can do with a slight fright, then a collision with a moose often ends in tragedy.
Particularly dangerous areas are country roads passing through forests and roads leading to watering places. Most often, such accidents are recorded in the Pskov municipal district, but the risk lies in wait for drivers throughout the region.
The adult elk weighs up to 500 kilograms, and its long and powerful legs lift the torso high above the ground. When colliding at speed, the animal does not fly aside like a passenger car, but literally falls on the hood, breaking through the windshield with its mass and crushing the roof of the cabin. The chances of surviving such an accident for the driver and passengers are critically low.
The traffic police reminds of several vital rules that will help to avoid trouble:
If the collision could not be avoided and the animal died, the first rule: immediately stop and call the traffic police (on number 112). The police, in turn, will call hunting officers to register the incident.
In no case do not try to escape from the scene of the accident or, even worse, load the carcass of the animal in the trunk, so that “goodness does not disappear.” Law enforcement agencies qualify such actions as poaching, which entails not only huge fines, but also real criminal liability.
"MK in Pskov" joins the warning of the traffic police: the price of your haste on the forest road may be too high. Be careful and take care of yourself!
