The easyJet Airbus A319-111, which was flying from Amsterdam to Edinburgh, gave an alarm and headed to an alternate airfield in Manchester.
According to flight data, the board took off from Amsterdam at 11:47 local time (13:47 GMT). The planned point of arrival was Edinburgh, but the plane made several laps over the city, and then changed the route towards Manchester.
The emergency transponder code Squawk 7700 was activated on board - it is used by pilots in case of an emergency. However, such a signal does not always indicate an immediate threat of disaster.
