The investigator revealed what evidence helped to find the body of Alena Redko

In September 2025, the Rostov region was surrounded by news of the disappearance of a resident of Aksai. The woman disappeared after meeting her ex-husband. He was not only the last to see her alive, but also the one who took her life.

About how a few minutes on the video helped the investigation of the murder of a woman, Donday on the eve of the Day of the criminalist told the Deputy head of the criminalistics Department of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Rostov region Sergey Potemkin.

Alena Redko disappeared in August 2025 after meeting with her ex-husband. The man did not deny that he saw her, but claimed that he dropped the woman in the center of Rostov.

Investigators decided to verify his words and examined CCTV footage. Forensics recovered the car's route and found a time gap.

- We looked at the CCTV footage and tracked the route of her ex-husband's car. On one stretch of road, we noticed a time gap: the distance the car had to cover in a few minutes took considerably longer. We picked up where that time gap was and went to comb the area. Soon we found the place where the body was found, said Sergey Potemkin.

Alena's ex-husband was later convicted of her murder. According to the case file, he strangled the woman with a wire.

Sergey Potemkin has been working in the criminalistics department of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Rostov region since 2018. According to him, when investigating crimes, not only obvious evidence is important, but also details that at first glance may seem insignificant.

In one of the high-profile cases, criminologists found traces of blood in the car, which was thoroughly washed. Under normal lighting, the spots were not visible, but special expert light helped to identify the traces. The examination confirmed that the blood belonged to the deceased.

In another investigation, a piece of brick and a piece of curbstone played an important role. On the items preserved blood and hair from the eyebrows. The study showed that this hair belonged to a murdered resident of Taganrog.

To help investigate criminal cases, forensic scientists also use microscopes, chemical reagents, and equipment to study digital data. Modern technology allows you to explore mobile devices, find biological traces and return to crimes committed decades ago.

According to Sergei Potemkin, there is no perfect crime. Even a carefully planned crime can leave a mark. Sometimes it is a small detail that helps investigators recover events and establish the culprit.
