Killer drivers dismantled their cars for spare parts and used someone else’s passport
The man bought studded wheels and front seats and then came to demand money back: there were blood-like stains on the purchases. In Novosibirsk, they searched for drivers who disappeared with cars. The seller of details was represented by a student Alexei. He didn't let customers look in the garage.

On December 31, 1998, 52-year-old Boris Kroshkin left to put his car in the garage. At home he was waiting for his wife Lyudmila - they were going to celebrate the New Year. She expected her husband to return in less than half an hour.
Kroshkin drove the "five" and sometimes worked as a private cart. When he did not return, Lyudmila went to the garage cooperative herself. The guard said he didn't see Boris or the car. There was no car near the house either.
On January 4, Kroshkin’s body was found on Krylov Street. His Gigulis are gone.
Three other drivers were missing. One of them worked as a wagon to earn money before his birthday. Another left home in his own car. The third night went to the gas station. Relatives searched for each individually.
On the morning of February 28, 1999, “Zhiguli” caught fire in the yard on Gogol Street. In the cabin and trunk found the bodies of three men. They all died before the fire from gunshot wounds to the head. The killings took place on January 22, February 19 and 27.
The men didn't know each other. Police were checking the version of the conflicts between the drivers, but all the victims disappeared cars. They searched for cars and places where they could be disassembled and sold in parts.
On March 6, the driver stopped at Red Avenue to pump the wheel. A man and a girl approached him and asked for a ride. The girl sat in front, her companion - behind.
On the street Yesenin passenger asked to stop. As the car braked, he shot the driver and then attacked him with a knife. The wounded man managed to get out of the car and take the knife away. The attacker left in his car.
The victim made it to the entrance. The residents called the police, and he handed over the knife to the arriving staff, with which he was wounded. The man survived, was treated for a long time, but remained disabled. He later testified in court.
They tried to find the stolen car according to the Intercept plan. The search didn't work.
Operatives inspected auto shops, maintenance stations and garage cooperatives. We interviewed taxi drivers and parts dealers. To disclose the series, a special group of prosecutors and police officers was created.
They were looking for, among other things, noticeable things from the salons: an expensive record player, sheep’s skin on the seat, an unusual steering wheel braid. Such a product could be remembered by buyers. Bypassing the garages helped cadets of the police school.
The owner of one of the boxes in the center of Novosibirsk told about the tenant. He called himself a student, Alexei, but stopped appearing. In the garage, police found parts of the dead cars.
Details were sold on newspaper ads. The buyer who demanded the money back was named Vadim.
Other clients remembered a young girl Nastya. The salesman introduced her as a sister. According to the descriptions of the buyers made a photo sketch, but the addresses of these “relatives” no one knew.
On one of the sold parts found the blood of Boris Kroshkin.
Another police garage was told by a woman from the Gusinobrodsk flea market. She was there with a wanted man and saw blood in the car.
Inside, car parts and traces of blood were found, including in the observation pit. Later it was established that there were the bodies of three drivers found in the burned-out “Zhiguly” on Gogol Street. They were stored in a garage, then loaded into a stolen car, taken out and burned with it.
The owner of this box called the full name of the tenant - Alexei Matyushenkov. When hiring, he presented a passport. Police checked the document and found the person to whom it belonged.
Matyushenkov was alive and studied at the Siberian State University of Railways. He has already announced the theft of a passport from the hostel. The student named his former roommate Nikolai Kozlen.
Koslenya left the university after two courses. He later reappeared, said he wanted to recover, and temporarily settled in a dormitory.
Kozleni's ex-wife gave him a picture. Relatives of Anastasia Bobovich gave a picture of the girl. The owners of the garages recognized Kozlenya in the picture: he was their tenant, posing as “student Alexei”.
In Novosibirsk found a rented apartment of the couple. During the search, knives and shots were found. The gun barrel was in the breadbasket. The apartment was gone.
In March 1999, Kozlena and Bobovich left the day before their scheduled detention. According to the materials of the case, presented by the “Continent Siberia”, they left almost all their belongings in the apartment. We went to the October clothing market, then left for Chelyabinsk by the nearest train.
Bobovich wasn't Kozleni's sister. She met him while working for him as a salesman, then a relationship began between them. At the time of the attacks, the girl was a minor.
According to her, Kozlenya threatened to kill if she tried to leave. Bobovic was in cars at the time of the attacks and helped clear blood.
In Chelyabinsk, the owner of a rented garage looked inside and saw a partially disassembled car. The driver's body lay in the basement.
The victim's name was Sergei Sinitsyn. Garage with the body of his "five" shot Kozlen and Bobovich. Novosibirsk operatives arrived in Chelyabinsk, but they could not detain the wanted person then.
Kozlena and Bobovich were searched in four regions: Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Kemerovo and Chelyabinsk. The orientation indicated the full name of the man - Nikolai Nikolaevich Kozlenya, a native of Bolotny. In addition to Matyushenkov’s passport, he could use documents in two more names.
Published by “Labor” orientation warned that the wanted person changes hair color and can be armed. It described pre-rented garages, search for buyers of spare parts and possible sales through maintenance stations.
Kozlenya lived in Chelyabinsk for about two years. According to the version of the investigation, outlined by “Continent Siberia”, he organized a den for the provision of intimate services. The women turned to the police, complaining that he took almost all the proceeds.
In 2001, he was called to the department for these complaints. There, the visitor recognized a man from the orientation in the case of murders of drivers. In August, Kozlenya was already delivered by stage from Chelyabinsk to Novosibirsk.
Kozlen was tried for five murders - four in Novosibirsk and one in Chelyabinsk - and two assassination attempts. In addition to the driver who took the knife on Yesenin Street, the victim survived in Tomsk. He was stabbed and resisted. The Tomsk attack occurred before the Novosibirsk series.
In court, Kozlen denied guilt, changed his testimony and tried to portray a mental disorder. Experts recognized his behavior as a simulation. Bobovic assisted the investigation and acted as a witness: her prosecution was terminated taking into account the amnesty and the expiration of the statute of limitations.
On December 19, 2002, the Novosibirsk Regional Court sentenced Kozlen to life imprisonment while serving in a special regime colony.
On the day of the verdict, the court stopped the prosecution of Kozleny on separate charges of illegal arms trafficking and theft of a passport or other important personal document: they were refused by the state prosecutor. On 26 June 2003 the Supreme Court overturned the conviction for intentional destruction or damage to property for lack of corpus delicti. In May 2017, the Novosibirsk Regional Court recognized Kozleni’s right to rehabilitation on these charges.
The convict demanded from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Finance 50 thousand rubles for illegal prosecution under the weapons article. The Zamoskvoretsky District Court refused. Among the reasons for the refusal was the lack of evidence of moral harm caused.
On January 10, 2018, the Moscow City Court disagreed. The appeal pointed out that suffering from illegal prosecution on the fallen charges is assumed, so they do not need to be separately proved. The court found the claim of compensation justified.
Life sentences for five murders and two assassination attempts remain in place.
