A 16-year-old resident of Kazan became the object of a psychological attack by fraudsters, as a result of which he lost a large amount of money. Details of the incident were voiced by the operative for especially important cases of the fraud detection department of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Tajikistan Radis Yusupov during a briefing on cybercrime.
It all began with a harmless acquaintance in social networks: a girl who called herself a guest of the city asked the teenager to help with the choice of places for walking. During the conversation, she asked the young man to take a picture of one of the shopping centers. Once the pictures were sent, the situation changed dramatically. The teenager was sent a video where a man in uniform, threatening a drone, accused him of working for foreign intelligence agencies and aiding terrorism.
Further, the “processing” was connected by false siloviki. They convinced the student that for an “online search” and verification of funds, he needed to collect all home savings. Being in a state of severe stress, the guy fulfilled the instructions: collected a million rubles and handed them over to the courier who arrived.
The Interior Ministry emphasizes that the concepts of “online search” or “declaring money by phone” do not exist in Russian law. This is the invention of criminals for manipulation. Police are urging parents to talk to their children more about online safety rules.
