In China, the number of victims after the devastating earthquake

In the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, the number of victims of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake continues to grow. According to the latest Chinese media reports, 65 people were injured and 16 local residents were killed. Earlier, China’s Central Television reported 46 victims, 11 of whom were in serious condition.

Tremors recorded on October 22 at 22:33 local time in Bachen district of the city district of Nagchu. The earthquake was at a depth of 10 km. The epicenter was located in the highlands, where the average altitude above sea level exceeds 4800 meters.

The earthquake damaged residential buildings and outbuildings. According to local authorities, the destruction affected the homes of 339 families. In addition, 20 cattle corrals were damaged, according to Xinhua news agency.

Information about the consequences of the natural disaster has been repeatedly clarified. Initially, 32 wounded were reported, then the number increased to 46. In the subsequent survey of the affected settlements, the number of wounded reached 65 people.

Rescue units, medical specialists and equipment were sent to the scene. Emergency personnel inspect damaged buildings, search for people under the rubble and provide assistance to victims. In one of the settlements, rescuers managed to extract a living person from the rubble.

According to Chinese authorities, tents, equipment and basic necessities are being delivered to the affected areas. Authorities are organizing accommodation for residents forced to leave damaged houses.

Experts continue to assess the effects of the earthquake. Due to continuing aftershocks and damage to buildings, the danger to the population remains.
