In Mari El, three non-payers of alimony will be tried under a criminal article
Residents of the Sernur district have accumulated alimony debts of up to 200 thousand rubles and now risk getting a real sentence for evading the maintenance of their own children.

The prosecutor’s office of the Sernur district sent three criminal cases to the court against local residents who systematically evade payment of alimony. The materials were collected by interrogators of the district department of bailiffs.
All three defendants are united by the fact that at the time of committing the offenses they did not officially work and were not registered in the employment center.
The first suspect for seven months of 2026 accumulated a debt of more than 200 thousand rubles, despite the administrative penalty received a year earlier. The second father owed more than 73 thousand rubles, although he had already served 20 hours of mandatory work for a similar violation. The third defaulter has a criminal record for non-payment of alimony (four months in prison in 2023) and was also brought to administrative responsibility in the fall of 2025, but continued to ignore his obligations to the child.
The article provides for correctional or forced labor for up to one year, arrest up to three months or actual deprivation of liberty. However, the law gives a chance to avoid a criminal record: with full repayment of the debt in the prescribed manner, criminal prosecution can be stopped, the press service of the FSSP of Russia for the Republic of Mari El writes.
