In Moscow, an 82-year-old man became a victim of phone scams, losing more than 12.9 million rubles. This was reported in the capital’s Prosecutor’s office, reports RIA Novosti.
The scam began with the fact that the pensioner called the code from the SMS to a stranger, allegedly to receive delivery. After that, he received a call from a false policeman. He said that on behalf of the Muscovite transferred money to finance criminal activities.
The caller convinced the man that he should help catch the intruders. Within 10 days, the pensioner withdrew savings from his accounts and transferred them to couriers. He was promised that the funds would be returned.
Then the scammer persuaded the Muscovite to sell real estate and buy housing cheaper. The man also gave the money to a female courier. The total damage exceeded 12.9 million rubles.
Now the prosecutor's office monitors the identification of all persons involved in the crime.
