The fatal accident occurred today, October 20, about 15 hours, on the 251st kilometer of the highway A-122 "A-114 - - - Ustyuzhna - Sacreds - Yazhelbitsy - Veliky Luki - Nevel". The 75-year-old Lada Largus driver drove into the oncoming lane and collided with GAZelle. Both cars caught fire. The Lada driver is dead. The 39-year-old driver of GAZelle was injured, the press service of the Department of State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation pop Novgorod region reported.
The press service of the Department of Emergency Protection and Fire Safety of the Novgorod Region added that eyewitnesses of the incident helped the GAZelle driver get out of the cabin. The ambulance crew took him to the Valdai medical facility.
Traffic on the highway was blocked by DPS officers. At the scene are auto inspectors, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and investigators.
This is the second fatal accident in our region. Late in the evening of October 19, a 56-year-old driver of a Renault Scenic car died in the Starorussky district.
