Volgograd Chikatilo released while he was searched for four murders

In mid-May 1996, the body of a 21-year-old woman was found at the bottom of a ravine in Traktorozavodsk district. Later, the investigation found that she was killed on May 13. Nine days later, another 46-year-old woman died in Volgograd.

Almost a year later, two more cases will be added. Investigators will see common signs of the attacks and conclude they are looking for one person. But his name will not be known for many years.

The first victim was found in the north of the city. According to the published materials of the investigation, she died from severe internal injuries, blood loss and pain shock.

A second murder occurred on May 22. Subsequently, the court will classify both May crimes as murders with the particular brutality associated with rape.

According to the investigation, he usually met women at public transport stops. Then he was taken by force or deception to a deserted place, committed sexual violence and killed. The stop was a place of acquaintance; the attack was already far away.

After the second death, there were no more murders for several months. The next crime was committed on February 4, 1997.

The February victim was 24 years old. She was found naked, beaten and strangled in winter.

On April 24, a 19-year-old student died. The investigator for especially important cases of the regional management of the IC Oleg Rodionov said that Porubay met her at the stop. After the attack, he strangled the girl with her tights.

The cases were investigated in two neighboring districts - Traktorozavodsk and Krasnooktyabrsk. According to Rodionov, investigators compared the nature of the injuries, the circumstances of sexual violence and how the perpetrator used the victims’ tights. Four cases combined.

The version of one attacker helped connect the events that passed between weeks and months. It was not possible to identify the person himself on these signs.

After the last murder, the investigators left physical evidence that survived the initial search. At the scene of the April crime seized biological material of the alleged killer. Later, criminologists told about the trace of seminal fluid on the jacket of one of the victims. Who exactly owned the jacket, they did not specify.

In 1998, Porubai carried out another attack. This time, the victim survived and was arrested. On 11 March 1999 the Krasnooktyabrskiy District Court of Volgograd sentenced him to 15 years in prison.

Four murders were not included in the verdict. The connection between them and the attack, for which Porubay was convicted, was not proved then.

Details of the first case and inspections carried out after the detention have not been published. Therefore, it is impossible to say which version was not confirmed or which research failed to be conducted. The result is known: Porubay went to the colony on the case of a surviving woman, and the murders continued to be investigated.

Biological material seized after the death of the student was preserved.

In 2007, molecular genetic examination made it possible to identify the profile of the person who left the trail. Ten years have passed since the April murder. Chop still serving his first term.

The profile gave forensic scientists the ability to compare old evidence with samples of specific people. They did not establish a match with the chop.

Later, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Investigative Committee checked samples of previously convicted sex offenders on the trails from unsolved cases. For such a test, a sample of Porubai was received. His genotype matched the mark on the victim's clothing.

But by this time Porubay had already left the colony.

He was released in August 2011 and returned to Volgograd. The genetic profile from the murder case has been around for four years. The match with the sample Porubay found only in 2013 – about two years after his release.

He was arrested again and presented the result of the examination. According to Rodionov, he admitted involvement in four murders, showed the crime scenes and told about the circumstances of the attacks. His testimony was compared with the materials of old cases.

A genetic study linked Porubai to a specific biological footprint. It didn't mean his DNA was found in every dead person. Confessions and testimonies were also important for the investigation of the four murders.

Sexological-psychiatric examination did not reveal a mental disorder that excluded responsibility. In the spring of 2014, the case was transferred to the Volgograd Regional Court.

The May murders of 1996 were qualified under the then acting Criminal Code of the RSFSR. Two crimes of 1997 under the new Criminal Code of Russia. The charges in the first two episodes included special cruelty and a connection to rape, in the next - a connection of murders with sexual violence.

The 1998 attack was not added to the four murders. The victim survived, and the punishment in her case Porubay has already served.

On July 24, 2014, a regional court found Andrei Porubay guilty of murdering four women. He was sentenced to 24 years and six months in prison. The first five years he was to spend in prison, the rest of the term in a maximum security colony.

On August 4, 2015, Porubai died in custody.
