A resident of Chuvashia sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for theft of grant funds for scientific development

The Mariinsky-Posad district court of Chuvashia sentenced two local residents found guilty of fraud on an especially large scale when receiving a state grant.

According to the investigative department of the FSB of Russia for Chuvashia, from March 2019 to June 2021, the convicts through the commercial organization they created received a grant for development work. They pledged to develop plant biomass processing technology for long-term storage, but no studies were actually conducted.

To hide the non-fulfillment of obligations, the men provided the customer with fictitious reports and photos of a metal structure not related to the declared development. Received budget funds in the amount of over 3.5 million rubles, they disposed at their discretion.

One of the defendants was assigned 2 years 6 months of suspended imprisonment, the second - 7 years 6 months in prison.
