Dialogue Instead of Escalation: How Trump’s Position Contains Tensions Between the US and Russia
Political scientist Victoria Zhuravleva appreciated the willingness of Donald Trump to talk with the Russian leader to prevent a global conflict.

Donald Trump is actively building the image of a peacemaker whose main tool is direct communication with the Kremlin. Unlike the Democratic administration, the new president’s willingness to engage in dialogue directly helps to contain geopolitical tensions and reduces the risks of a direct clash between the two nuclear powers. This was told on the air of the program “How to see” by the head of the Center for North American Studies IMEMO RAS Victoria Zhuravleva.
Victoria Zhuravleva: Trump is positioning himself as a peacemaker. And if we talk, for example, about Russian-American relations... Because World War III is, of course, primarily a conflict directly between the United States and Russia. The important thing is that unlike the Democrats, that is, the previous president, Trump is ready, willing and doing it – to talk to the Russian leader. And this is his very serious role in containing the intensity of the confrontation, in ensuring that the world does not really slide into the Third World War. This, of course, is considered by the Russian side and, in general, has a good effect on the atmosphere of at least bilateral relations.
