Motorists were given advice on choosing winter tires

Determine the moment of transition to winter tires is simple: if the apartment turned on heating, it's time to change tires. Such advice in an interview with KP.RU gave autoexpert Andrei Lomanov. According to him, the heat supply means that the average daily temperature fell below certain values, which means that the warm season is over.

Expert Anton Shaparin advises to put winter tires two weeks before the first frost, than unexpectedly face ice. An additional plus, as he noted, is the ability to avoid queues at the tire assembly.

Experts reminded that summer rubber is dangerous in winter: in the cold it tans and loses coupling properties, and its tread is not designed for snow and dirt. Winter tires due to lamellae and spikes significantly increase cross-country performance. At the same time, driving on summer tires in the period from December to February is prohibited by traffic rules, a fine of 500 rubles is imposed for violation.

Speaking about the type of tires, Shaparin noted that the Scandinavian type of friction tires, designed for frost and snow slopes, is suitable for Russian conditions, while the Alpine one is more suitable for the southern regions.

“Good friction tires are the best option for megacities like Moscow,” said Lomanov. Spikes, in his opinion, give more confidence on icy roads and are preferred in northern regions.

Lomanov does not advise buying Chinese winter tires, noting that Russian brands that replaced the departed Western ones are not inferior to them in quality and are cheaper. Shaparin, in turn, recommended, if possible, to purchase tires of European or Japanese manufacturers produced in Russia.

Experts differed on the place of purchase. Lomanov believes that rubber can be bought with hands on profile sites, saving up to half the cost, while technical expert Oleg Markov advises to contact authorized tire centers, where storage rules are observed. Shaparin personally convinced that it is profitable to buy on marketplaces with discounts.

Markov also gave several tips when choosing: do not skimp on used tires, since they can not assess wear and hidden defects; strictly follow the recommendations of the automaker on load and speed indexes; pay attention to the marking “mountain with a snowflake” (3PMSF), confirming the passage of tests on snow, and take tires no older than five years, as the rubber loses elasticity over time.

Earlier, the Russians were told how to choose the right used winter tires.

Also, the Russians explained why you should not delay the replacement of summer tires for a winter car.
