The library of the UN office in Geneva presented the book “The fate of women – the fate of a united Belarus”. The presentation of the publication, which took place with the participation of the author on the Geneva international platform, was timed to coincide with the Year of the Belarusian woman.

The Permanent Mission of Belarus to the UN Office in Geneva organized a series of events dedicated to the Year of the Belarusian Woman for the foreign diplomatic corps.
As Larisa Belskaya, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, emphasized at the ceremony of awarding the book to the UN library, this year is a special one – the Year of the Belarusian Woman, announced by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
The diplomat spoke about how the country implements social policy related to women's issues. The author of the book Alina Grishkevich shared the stories of her heroines, through the fates of which the history of the country, the difficult path of its development, is vividly reflected. The book, published by BelTA, reflects the patriotism, heroism of the Belarusian people during the Second World War, spirituality and rich cultural and family traditions. The author is an Honored Cultural Worker of the Republic of Belarus, a BelTA journalist, a member of the Union of Writers of Belarus and a member of the Union State Writers Union.
As Charlotte Varakaulle, Director of the Library and Archives and Chair of the Committee on Cultural Activities of the UN Office in Geneva, noted during the award ceremony, this is a unique initiative when an author from a UN member state hands them a book in person.
“This is a very important contribution to the efforts being made to promote women's issues. The book “The Fates of Women – the Fate of a United Belarus” by Alina Grishkevich will enrich the thematic fund of the library. The publication is valuable because it tells about a variety of women, said the director of the library.
Sigrun Hubbermann, head of library services, said the library had books on women politicians, but there was no publication that covered the fates of ordinary women. The book presents both a high-ranking leader and ordinary women with unique fates.
The book is published simultaneously in Belarusian, Russian, English and Chinese. This book project was implemented in cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Belarus. The publication went to more than 30 countries of the world, now it is presented in Switzerland, including the UN Office in Geneva.
