Girl from a witness turned into the accused – she was convicted under two articles of the Criminal Code

Sentenced 18-year-old previously unconvicted resident of Smolevichi, who was accused of giving knowingly false testimony and disclosure of preliminary investigation data, told the correspondent of the Agency “Minsk-Novosti” in the Prosecutor’s office of the Central district.

In March 2025, the defendant and her friends were driving in a Mercedes-Benz 280. Passing the intersection of Masherov Avenue and Winners, the driver of the car failed to control and collided with the bus. Before the arrival of the traffic police two passengers of Mercedes left. By the way, one of them as a result of an accident, according to the expert, received serious bodily injury.

The culprit of the accident asked the girl to lie that the vehicle was driven by his partner. She agreed. During interrogations as a witness, the girl was warned each time under her signature about criminal liability for knowingly giving false testimony, but she still lied to the investigator three times about the circumstances of the incident.

In addition, the accused gave a receipt of non-disclosure of the data of the preliminary investigation, for which criminal liability is also provided. Despite this, she discussed the incident with her friend and in her work chat.

As a result, a criminal case was opened against a resident of Smolevichi under two articles of the Criminal Code at once. The guilt in the court hearing she fully admitted, in what she did repented.

- The accused has a secondary education, she works as a barista cook in a private organization, has not previously been brought to criminal responsibility, said Andrei Nikolsky, senior assistant prosecutor of the Central District, who spoke on this criminal case as a state prosecutor. The court found her guilty of committing crimes under Part 1 of Art. 401 of the Criminal Code ("knowingly false testimony") and Art. 407 of the Criminal Code ("Disclosure of data of an inquiry, preliminary investigation or closed court session"), and imposed a final punishment in the form of a fine of 40 basic units (1 800 BYN).
