Experts told how to evaluate the participants of the contest “Teacher of the Year of the Republic of Belarus”

One of the brightest pedagogical fights of the country is the competition of professional skills "Teacher of the Year of the Republic of Belarus - 2026" in full swing. Ahead of the participants is a superfinal, where the best of the best will be determined. The format of the final stage and the evaluation system was told by the director of the Institute of Professional Development of Educational Workers of the Academy of National Education, deputy chairman of the jury of the competition Inessa Zubrilin, writes sb.by.

The culmination of the superfinal will be a mini-lesson - a kind of exam for pedagogical skills in conditions close to extreme.

Mini-lesson is a lesson for 25, maximum 30 minutes on the stage, where a minimum set of tools, methodological including the teacher must solve his problem. This task is binary, explains Inessa Zubrilina. On the one hand, there is an audience of eight so-called students in front of the contestant – their role is performed by teachers who are not among the superfinalists. On the other hand, it's a big hall. We always pay attention to whether the teacher is able to react to everything that happens in the auditorium, to take into account the reaction of the viewer. And, perhaps, while the listeners perform some task, even for a minute and a half, it does not stand aside, but inspires the room with content that correlates with the theme of the lesson.

This year, the assessment system has become as clear and uniform as possible. The maximum score is 20 points: four criteria, ten indicators, a scale from 0 to 2.

- If I evaluate, relatively speaking, the oratorical art of the teacher and I have no complaints, I put 2 points. If you hear speech errors, incorrect stress, slurred speech, stiffness - 1 point. For obvious sins, 0. Everything is very clear, explains the deputy chairman of the jury.

What is interesting: daily experts process evaluation sheets until ten in the evening, and the results are posted on the website of the competition day in and day out.

- They are tracked not only by the contestants themselves, but also in the regions, in their schools they are supported. These are the statistics that are needed, emphasizes Inessa Zubrilina. And the winner is the one who scored the most points. Everything is prosaic and democratic.

The intrigue of the superfinal remains the theme of the mini-lesson: presumably, it will be the same for all finalists, despite different nominations. However, this does not negate the main requirement - to remain within the scope of your subject.
