"It can't be true!": American woman arrives in Russian province She shook with shock: I could not believe my eyes after going to a regular store
American Sarah came to Ryazan, expecting to see the harsh winter, empty streets and the usual picture from Western publications about Russia. But the reality was very different. The usual trip to the shopping center, a walk through the snow-covered city and a visit to the grocery store made a guest from the United States take a new look at the daily life of Russians.

The first point of acquaintance with the city was one of the major shopping centers of Ryazan. It was about minus 15 degrees outside, so Sarah assumed most residents would prefer to stay home. However, full parking and a large number of visitors inside quickly dispelled her expectations, writes Zen channel “Talk about education”
The American was surprised that people come here not only for shopping. For many, the shopping center becomes a place for meetings with friends, family holidays and walks with children. Winter weather does not interfere with the usual rhythm of life, and the city continues to live its daily life.
After the shopping center, friends went for a walk in the historical center of Ryazan. Snowy streets, ancient architecture and frosty buildings made a strong impression on Sarah.
She drew attention to the usual details that the locals have long ceased to notice: cleared sidewalks, elderly citizens, quietly going about their business, children riding on ice.
Instead of the expected gloomy picture, the American saw a city in which frost became a familiar part of life. White snow, glowing windows and warm light in the windows created a special atmosphere, combining the harsh climate with the comfort of ordinary city streets.
Especially Sarah remembered the main city tree, decorated with festive lights. She enjoyed photographing the square, noting that what she saw resembled footage from a Christmas movie.
But no less surprising were the summer rides left on the square until next season. Carousels and trampolines covered with snow seemed an unusual sight to the American.
For locals, this is not unusual: in winter, the attractions do not work, and with the onset of the warm season, they reopen to visitors. However, the look of a foreigner made it possible to see in this picture a special detail - life in the city does not stop because of the change of seasons, but simply changes the usual rhythm.
In the evening, at the hotel, Sarah shared her impressions of the trip. She was surprised not only by the city streets and winter landscapes, but also by everyday things that Russians rarely pay attention to.
I especially remember a trip to the usual grocery store "Pyaterochka". The American noted the wide choice of products, the availability of products and the usual atmosphere of the supermarket. According to her, what she saw was markedly different from the expectations formed by stories about life in Russia.
Such household details were more important to her than many tourist attractions. In an ordinary store, on snowy streets and in a busy shopping center, she saw not an exotic country from other people's stories, but the everyday life of people.
The history of the trip to Ryazan shows how much personal impressions can differ from the views formed in advance. Sarah expected to see the city shackled by frost, but found that even in cold weather, people continue to work, meet, walk and do their usual things.
No miracle happened. A typical Russian province was not the same as a foreign visitor. And sometimes it is familiarity with everyday life that helps to better understand the country than any stereotypes about it.
