The concept of road traffic development was approved at the session of the Minsk City Council

The concept of developing the transport system and improving road safety in the capital "Good Road" for 2026–2030 was approved at the session of the Minsk City Council of Deputies on September 25, the correspondent of the "Minsk-news" agency reports.

"For many years, the implementation of the" Good Road "concept has been proving its effectiveness," said Denis Livanovych, deputy head of the UGAI of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee. — Despite the increased number of cars, the number of road accidents (RTA), the number of dead and injured citizens decreased in the capital. The consolidation of these indicators is also enshrined in the new draft concept.

D. Livanovych noted that if in the 2000s the number of people killed in road accidents was more than 100 people per year, and the wounded — more than 1,300 people, today these figures have decreased several times.

— Over the past 10 years, the figure has almost halved: from 40 deaths in 2016 to 23 in 2025, — D. Livanovych cited the data. — In January — August 2026, compared to the same period in 2025, the number of recorded accidents in Minsk decreased by 17.7%, the number of citizens killed in them decreased from 17 to 4 people, the number of wounded decreased from 363 to 344.

The implementation of the new concept assumes that by 2030 the number of victims in an accident will be no more than 400 people per year, no more than 18 people will be killed, and the death of children will not be allowed at all.

— The concept involves the impact on various areas to achieve the minimum mortality rate on the roads, — said the deputy head of the UGAI of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee. — Thus, the development of the transport network of the city of Minsk has been carried out for many years, and now, taking into account the intensive growth in the number of cars, the city is taking measures to modernize streets built many years ago and create new transport arteries. An important area is agitation work with the population, which is carried out with various categories of citizens.

The document adopted during the session contains 14 structural programs, adjusted taking into account the practical experience of their application and allowing to ensure safety both on the roads and in the yard areas, effective control of the behavior of all road users, control and, of course, preventive measures to avoid road accidents.

"The main goal of this concept in the future is to achieve an ideal state of road traffic, in which there will be no dead and wounded in an accident in Minsk," D. Livanovic emphasized.
