Mas-wrestling in Karelia: Yakut specialists will help develop the traditional type of wrestling

Petrozavodsk State University is actively mastering a specific discipline - mas-wrestling. The partner in promoting this sport was Churapchinsk State Institute of Physical Culture (Yakutia). Within the framework of the bilateral agreement, the specialized university transferred professional equipment to Karelian colleagues.

On the basis of PetrSU, a group of 16 coaches has already been released, who have undergone professional retraining under the guidance of Yakut experts. As a practical addition to the training, a master class on the rules of wrestling was held on October 22.

The essence of the competitions is that athletes rest their feet on a special emphasis and try to snatch a wooden block (mas) from the hands of the opponent sitting opposite. The winning result is considered to be the separation of the enemy from the support board or the acquisition of the projectile.

Now Churapchinsky University has the status of the International Mas-Wrestling Academy. The development of this discipline is active: there are 36 national federations in the world. The initiators from Yakutia, with the support of the government of the republic, are striving to achieve the inclusion of this sport in the program of the Olympic Games.
