The rules of telephone conversations for convicts change: parents are a priority

As it became known to MK, one of the main innovations proposed is to consolidate the concept of video communication. Although video terminals are already available in some prisons, they are still being used as an experiment. The new order makes video communication a perfectly standard procedure. However, the draft document has a reservation: “if there is a technical possibility”. Unfortunately, as practice shows, some colonies may refer to the lack of such technical capability.

The most important innovation will affect foreigners. Until now, if they called their loved ones who did not speak Russian, they had to call an interpreter. The procedure is very long, expensive, and there were practically no cases when foreign prisoners were met. The Ministry of Justice proposes to introduce automatic translation of speech into text form.

The new rule also prescribes a priority right for parents of young children to use a taxi. We are talking about women and men who have children under 10 years. Today, the law guarantees the right to call on arrival in exceptional circumstances, but does not allocate the category of parents with children under 14 years of age in a separate preferential. Now each parent, arriving in the colony, will be able to immediately call the child, plus in the future will do it without queue.

The new document also details the grounds for stopping the conversation. For example, one of the items describes the reasons for the termination of ties, including the use of slang words and expressions used in the criminal environment, ciphers, as well as conversations in languages that were not originally specified in the application. By the way, a sample of a new statement is also presented.

In general, we can say that the document tries to introduce modern technologies - video communication and autotranslation - into the legal field. It also strictly regulates the time when a call should be made. If today calls are coordinated in weeks or even months, then now the application will be considered within a day from the moment of his, and the decision is made within a maximum of three days.
