MUP “Customer Service” will pay 2.2 million rubles for environmental damage caused to Lake Onega
As it became known from the press service of the Arbitration Court, the incident that led to pollution occurred at the end of November 2025

As it became known from the press service of the Arbitration Court, the incident that led to pollution occurred at the end of November 2025. On November 28, Rosprirodnadzor received information about the discovery of a film of petroleum products both in the water surface and on the coastal zone of Lake Onega, near the street of the Moscow city of Petrozavodsk. Employees of the department together with experts of the branch of the FSBI "TsLATI for the Republic of Karelia" conducted two visits to the site for examination - on November 28 and 29. During the inspections, it was found that the source of pollution was the issue No. 5 storm sewerage, which is under the jurisdiction of the ICU “Customer Service”.
As explained in the court, the recorded area of pollution of the water surface exceeded 17,300 square meters. During the inspections, water samples were taken from various points, including a background sample located more than 1 kilometer from the scene. The results of laboratory tests revealed a multiple (50-90 times) excess of the maximum permissible concentrations (MPC) of petroleum products directly at the dumping site.
Calculation of the amount of damage in the amount of 2.2 million rubles was carried out according to the approved methodology of the Ministry of Natural Resources and was recognized by the judicial body as lawful. In addition, in favor of Rosprirodnadzor, a state fee of 91,102 rubles was collected.
Representatives of the ICU “Customer Service” opposed the satisfaction of the claim. As arguments, information was given about the repair of treatment facilities carried out in 2022, as well as an assumption about a possible leak from an underground tank with oil products. However, the court considered the presented arguments insufficiently convincing: materials confirming these circumstances were received seven months after the incident, and other evidence was not provided by the defendant.
The arbitration court decided to recover from the ICU “Customer Service” the total amount of 2 203 390 rubles. This decision is not yet valid and can be appealed.
