From token to biometrics: how to pay for a fare in the Minsk metro
Token, bank card, Payment app and biometrics: what payment methods are available to passengers of the Minsk metro and what may appear in the future?

Minsk metro uses several payment methods and continues to test modern technologies. Among the available options are tokens, travel tickets, contactless bank cards and the Payment mobile application. On the air of the program “People’s GOST” said the official representative of the Minsk metro Andrey Drob.
Bank cards are accepted from 2018
Traditionally, you can pay for travel with a token or a ticket. In addition, since 2018, all stations of the Minsk metro have been paying by contactless bank card directly at the turnstile.
“Since 2018, payment by contactless bank card directly at the turnstile has been introduced simultaneously at all stations of the Minsk Metro,” Andrei Drob said.
According to him, international experts who participated in the seminars in Minsk noted the scale of implementation of this technology.
“We became the third city after London and Vancouver, which at the same time on the territory of the entire subway introduced payment by contactless bank card at the turnstile”, – said the representative of the metro.
There is a mobile service "Payment"
Another payment method is the mobile application and the Payment service. According to Andrei Drob, he has already been tested and is working normally.
Passengers can take advantage of this option along with traditional tokens, travel tickets and bank cards.
The ride on the face was tested
The Minsk Metro also tested the biometric fare payment. The system allows you to pass through the turnstile after identifying the passenger in the face.
Special devices were installed at three stations - in just six lobbies. Testing is completed, the system works, and if necessary, the technology can be implemented more widely.
We tried different options, including a biometric service, which is a face-to-face payment. Special devices stood at three stations of the Minsk metro, that is, in six lobbies. We have tested this system, it works, said Andrei Drob.
