The contest “My Garden and Garden: Veteran Dozhinki” was held on September 16 at the Territorial Center for Social Services for the Population of the Soviet District, a correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports.

“On the eve of the Day of National Unity, the Council of the Minsk City Organization of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans holds a competition “Veteran Dozhinki” in all districts of the capital,” said the chairman of the organization Yuri Lutsyk. People of “silver” age represent fruit and vegetable products grown on homesteads, and at the same time amaze with hard work and inexhaustible imagination. They do not just bring, say, pumpkin or squash, but make various figures from vegetables, prepare dishes, drinks, blanks for the winter.

He noted that the competition connects representatives of all generations.

- Elderly people, and the ranks of the city veteran organization unite 49 thousand people, share with young people country secrets, recipes, everyday advice. All this emphasizes the continuity of generations, the unity of the Belarusian people. On the eve of the state holiday on September 17, such meetings once again prove that we live as one big, friendly family, and every resident of the country contributes to its prosperity, Lutsyk said.
Giant pumpkins, giant beets, tomato buttons - vegetable abundance reigned at the competition in the Soviet district. Lyubov Pupkevich baked pies from the grain of a new harvest, and also brought various varieties of pumpkin.

- This is “a similar puff”, and that is “mother-in-law’s cake”, pointing to the types of melon crops, L. Pupkevich said. The first one is very sweet, with juicy orange flesh. It can be eaten fresh, added to a salad or made juice. The flesh of the “mother-in-law pie” variety is also sweet, but it is more fleshy. More suitable for cooking cakes, pancakes, soups. On the land, where the parents left the house, the land is productive, so everything grows as if by yeast. Look what beets this year swung - one fruit weighs 6 kg!

Another member of the Soviet District Veterans Organization Raisa Pyatnova proudly demonstrated her tomatoes.
- Many different vegetables grow in the country, but she brought the best varieties of tomatoes to the competition - "cottage", "velvets", "black prince", and also ajika, canned salads and other preparations for the winter, said R. Pyatnova and added: - I also prepared a drink from the flowers of velvets, and from the berries - jam. Everything is delicious and natural.

Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Organization of the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans Zhanna Tchaikovsky stressed that all participants of the competition are winners.
- This year, each district of the city presented something new to the Veteran Dozhinki. Appreciating the work of the participants in the jury, I never cease to admire the talents of our veterans. A low bow to them for their work, striving for perfection, active civic position, said Tchaikovsky.

The results of the contest “My Garden and Garden: Veteran Dozhinki” will be summed up at the Veterans’ Culture Palace on September 30.
