Scientists have figured out how a popular drink can improve memory
Decaffeinated coffee can have a positive effect on certain types of memory

Decaffeinated coffee can have a positive effect on certain types of memory. This is the conclusion reached by researchers from University College Cork. The results of their work are published in the journal Nature Communications.
31 people took part in a small experiment. The volunteers first completely excluded coffee for two weeks, and then drank four servings of a regular or decaffeinated drink daily for three weeks.
In participants in both groups, scientists recorded changes in the intestinal microbiota and a decrease in some indicators of stress, depressive manifestations and impulsivity. However, improvements in word recall and spatial memory tests were only observed in the decaffeinated coffee group.
Regular coffee, in turn, was associated with increased alertness and attention, as well as a decrease in anxiety and psychological stress. The authors of the study admit that the effect of the drink on the body is due not only to caffeine, but also to other substances, including polyphenols that can affect the connection between the intestine and the brain.
